Hungarian Grand Prix
The Hungarian Grand Prix, staged at Hungaroring, is always going to be remembered as the first Formula 1 race on “the other side” of the Iron Curtain.
If the race must be summarised in a few words they would quite probably be – dusty, hot, tight, twisty and dry. In only rained during the 2006 race.
Strategy plays a big part here and sometimes its worth getting out late for qualifying. Some drivers love it , notably Fernando Alonso, some think it is too demanding and slow.
Well, it may not be the fastest of races in the Formula 1 calendar, but it has been the scene of some memorable races. In 1989 Nigel Mansell started 12th and managed to win, Alonso got his first win in 2003, Jenson Button with another maiden win in 2006.
Very popular event, with the notable presence of Fins and Polish fans.
