Spanish Grand Prix Experience:

“We had a 3 day pass which included a walk in the pits which was excellant, it would have made it better if we knew a time when each driver was appearing as the course is so large to see the merchantise and walk the circuit it was easy to miss the driver you wanted to see, but well worth the visit.

I think that there should be somewhere in the literature sent to us a note about not taking cans into the circuit especially as refreshment was very expensive – take plastic bottles instead.

The track was easy to get to from the train station, if all up hill, take into account the distance around the circuit which is made slower by hundreds of other people doing the same thing. All in all I would strongly recomend the Cataluna Grand Prix ”
Paul

“It was very easy to get to the circuit either by road or rail. Alot of trees so there was plenty of shade from the sun. Lots of viewing points to sit and watch the race. Not as many food vendors and toilets. ”
Glynn

“The whole experience was fantastic. Transport to the circuit from the city centre by train was only 30 minutes with a 20 minute walk to the circuit. Facilities were better than we had expected and lots of viewing places with our general admission ticket. Highly recommend it. ”
M Holland

“What a fabulous weekend, brilliant weather, brilliant seats, right on the 100 metre marker before Turn 1 so saw all the overtaking. ”
Jim Barclay (Stand E)

Mark Webber wins in Spain but Lewis Hamilton crashes out

Mark Webber took a dominant victory for Red Bull at the Spanish Grand Prix as McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton lost second place in a dramatic finish.

Webber led from pole to flag, but Hamilton had out-raced Sebastian Vettel in the other Red Bull before a puncture forced the Englishman out.

That promoted Fernando Alonso’s Ferrari to second, ahead of Vettel, who also hit trouble in the closing stages.

Mercedes’s Michael Schumacher was fourth from Jenson Button’s McLaren.

Vettel looked to have lost third place when he ran into problems in the closing laps… read more

Faultless Webber wins with style in Spain

Mark Webber drove the race of his life in Barcelona on Sunday afternoon, leaving Red Bull team mate Sebastian Vettel behind on the way to the third Grand Prix victory of his career. The Australian won the race to the first corner as Vettel tucked into second place ahead of McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso, and steadily set the pace as he pulled away.

By the time they had all made their first pit stops, Webber was more than nine seconds ahead of Hamilton, who had outfumbled Vettel in the tyre changes. The German got held up waiting for Alonso to come by to his pit, and then Hamilton went one lap longer than Red Bull had expected. As Lewis rejoined, Sebastian was heading for the outside line into Turn One, but as Hamilton had to jink round one of the Virgins which was hugging the inside line to let them go, Vettel had to run wide into the run-off area and that cemented Hamilton’s position. read more

Webber takes crushing Barcelona win

Mark Webber got his 2010 title challenge up and running with a crushingly dominant first win of the season in the Spanish Grand Prix.

The Australian kept Red Bull team-mate Sebastian Vettel at bay into the first corner and was never threatened thereafter, relentlessly extending his lead and driving faultlessly to victory.

A slow pit stop for Vettel promoted Lewis Hamilton to second place, but the McLaren driver was cruelly denied his best result of the season when his left-front tyre failed at 140mph on the penultimate lap. read more

Fans reviews of the Spanish Grand Prix:

“Just returned from Spain having combined the race weekend with a family hoilday and what a fantastic trip !! The plus points were definatly the location of our seats (stand G) and the great weather and of course a British win !”

“I choose this race weekend as a present for my son and husband last xmas, and I was not let down in any aspect of this gift. First I would like to thank bookf1 for the amazing seats provided, my men said it was truly unreal how close they were to the finish line with full view of the pits, and a clear view of the screen for the rest of the action on the track, the joy in their voices told me my choice was right plus the million thank you txt messages I received over the three days they were there.”

“If you are English be prepared for a great deal of good natured banter from the Spanish contingent, especially where L.H is concerned. Also there is a lengthy walk from Montmelo station to the circuit, mostly uphill, which can be tiring if the weather is very warm or if you are older, like me.”

The Spanish Grand Prix is hosted on probably one of the best all-round circuits, Circuit de Catalunya. Which some may think is great, but in fact this event is not one of the most exciting in the calendar.

The reason is simple, there is so much testing done here that the teams and the drivers are just too familiar with the circuit.

The organisers tried to change things a bit in 2007 by redesigning a part of the circuit in order to improve the overtaking and increase excitement, but it proved to be a real failure.

Fernando Alonso became the first Spaniard to win the Spanish Grand Prix in 2006.

Q: Jenson, another brilliant day for you and your team. A switch for your team-mate to a three stop strategy relatively early in the race and then just a great day for you.

Jenson Button: Well, it was the other way around. We were both going that direction but they switched me to a two stop just to cover all our bases. Three stop was the quicker strategy we thought and I wasn’t sure about going to a two stop. When we put the fuel on board it felt very, very heavy and I didn’t think I would come out in front of (Felipe) Massa and (Sebastian) Vettel but I did. From then on I could get my head down and concentrate on putting the laps in and being as consistent as possible. So to come away with a win, they all mean a lot obviously but coming back to Europe and winning in Barcelona, a circuit that I’ve always found a little bit tough, it’s a good feeling and gives me a lot of confidence for the rest of the season.

Q: Rubens, a great team performance as well. Tell us about the race from your point of view.

Rubens Barrichello: The race evolved quite well. I had a great start, went to the lead. I was running a tiny bit quicker than Jenson to begin with and I had two more laps of fuel. It was running quite well and then I heard they changed Jenson’s strategy and I had to keep on pushing. My third set of tyres was not good. I don’t know if there was something broken on the car or anything. I could not keep my pace up as well as the last set, so I guess it wasn’t the tyre, it must be something to do with the car and from there on it was a struggle. I had a big struggle to keep the car on the track and a relief to come second and a big thank you to the whole group as it is still first and second back in Europe. Disappointed that I haven’t won the race as I thought I had it in the bag today but it is still a good effort from the whole team.

Q: Mark, a strong result for you and the team. Your team-mate Sebastian Vettel obviously spent most of the race behind Felipe Massa’s Ferrari. But a great ending to your second stint to make up that time.

Mark Webber: Yeah, exactly. It was a tough first stint in terms of we knew that it was in qualifying that it was going to be difficult to get track position on those guys, particularly Felipe round this place as you can’t do much on the circuit. We did our best to hang in there in the first stint as best as we could. I knew I was one lap shorter which is never ideal but that’s the way it was because of qualifying. The car went incredibly neutral in the high speed in the last few laps of the first stint, so we made a balance correction for the second stint and the second stint went very well for me. It was very long, we knew we had to go extremely long to try and jump and give us very good field position if you like with the people around us. That worked well for the majority of the stint, a good 25 laps or so, and again at the end I came up to Rubens a little bit. I would have tried to stay close and the guys were encouraging me to stay as close as possible as we thought Rubens might have been one lap shorter but he stopped on the same lap. The primes worked okay at the end. I was stuck behind Rubens again for most of the last stint. But it is a good day for the team. We would like a few more points but I think, what is it 10 or 11 for Sebastian and I so that’s another good chunk for us. These guys are a still going away but we are going away from the rest of the field, so a great day for us. And the team have buried themselves this week to get the car ready, a lot of all-nighters and a fantastic thank you to Renault as the engines have been great.

Jenson Button’s superb season continued as he grabbed his fourth 2009 race win out of five at a tactical Spanish Grand Prix which Brawn GP totally dominated.

Brazilian veteran Barrichello led the first stint of the race after catapulting past pole-sitter Button by the first corner and opened up a handy gap over the championship leader before his later opening stop.

The result gives Button 41 points to Barrichello’s 27, Vettel’s 23 and Webber’s 15.5. In the constructors’ stakes, Brawn have 68 to Red Bull’s 38.5.

Nick Heidfeld drove a tough and defensive race to net two points for BMW Sauber with seventh place, and Nico Rosberg completed the points scorers with eighth for Williams.
