Webber wins Hungarian GP 2010

Mark Webber vaulted back into the lead of the world championship after storming to an inspired fourth victory of the season in an ultimately absorbing Hungarian Grand Prix.

Vettel sprinted into the lead from pole position, with Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso bulling up to snatch second from Webber as Felipe Massa in the second scarlet car just held off Renault’s Vitaly Petrov and McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton.

A gearbox problem ended Hamilton’s race on lap 24 when he was running fourth.

Ferrari’s Felipe Massa took fourth, ahead of Renault’s Vitaly Petrov and Williams’ Nico Hulkenberg. Sauber’s Pedro de la Rosa scored his first points of the season with seventh ahead of McLaren’s Jenson Button.

Hungarian Grand Prix 2010 Race Report

What F1 fans say about the Hungarian Grand Prix:

“I attended the Hungarian GP in August 2008 along with my family. It was an exceedingly hot weekend, but the Hungarians truly know how to appreciate summer by enjoying the warm evenings outside on Budapest’s streets. Track atmosphere was fun, especially as both the Poles and the Finns regard this as their home race. Make sure to get an ice cream from one of the pretty ice cream girls.”

“Me and a couple of my mates went in ‘07. We sat at the last corner just before the straight with a brilliant view into the pits. We would have liked to sit at the end of the straight, watching the first corner, buit since being a student doesn’t really come with a big pay-check, so we took the other ones, which were very cheap, but it wasn’t so bad since Hungaroring is situated in a valley you can actually see quite a bit of the track from there.”

“The atmosphere is pretty awesome. At the end of the race there was a huge roar from the crowd when Kubica got out of his car and waved to them, despite only finishing 13th. Kimi on the podium was also a cause for celebration.”

Hungarian Grand Prix

The Hungarian Grand Prix, staged at Hungaroring, is always going to be remembered as the first Formula 1 race on “the other side” of the Iron Curtain.

If the race must be summarised in a few words they would quite probably be – dusty, hot, tight, twisty and dry. In only rained during the 2006 race.

Strategy plays a big part here and sometimes its worth getting out late for qualifying. Some drivers love it , notably Fernando Alonso, some think it is too demanding and slow.

Well, it may not be the fastest of races in the Formula 1 calendar, but it has been the scene of some memorable races. In 1989 Nigel Mansell started 12th and managed to win, Alonso got his first win in 2003, Jenson Button with another maiden win in 2006.

Very popular event, with the notable presence of Fins and Polish fans.
